WIKIsation of SSU: mechanisms of cooperation

On April 3, the second educational seminar “Ukrainian Wikipedia” was held at SSU. Andrii Bondarenko, a member of public organization “Wikimedia Ukraine”, explained how to write the articles and to post them correctly on Ukrainian wiki-site.

Andrii presented projects to the audience, which the wikipedia employees are currently engaged in and which require assistance, including support from SSU students: “World classics in Ukrainian language”, works of Ivan Franko, Lesia Ukrainka, and other authors, works of Bohdan Khavrylyshyn and other.

Andrii Bondarenko presented versions of wikiprojects, which SSU students will be able in future to join to:

• competitions (for example, in 2011 “Wikimedia Ukraine” by the support of “Wikimédia France” will held a contest “French autumn” - a competition of writing articles on French topics in the Ukrainian Wikipedia and articles on Ukrainian topics in French Wikipedia. One who downloaded the most megabytes in form of useful articles - received expensive prizes);
• thematic weeks (the users write articles on given topic during the week);
• wikiexpedition ( some wikiemployees go to the distance places of Ukraine to make photos of the little-known cultural and historical monuments);
• scientific and research projects.

“Ukrainian Wikipedia - is the tool for learning and at the same time it is the way of transferring knowledge to others. So it is substantial and reasonable to create a new joint project of Ukrainian Wikipedia and SSU in future” - said Andrii Bondarenko.

The second part of the seminar was held in the form of training. Andrii Bondarenko demonstrated how to create personal page in Wikipedia, to create the articles and work with it.

How to work with Wikipedia you can find on the site or watch at YouTube.

On March 19, 2012 the cooperation agreement was signed between the public organization “Wikimedia Ukraine” and Sumy State University. SSU is the first among Ukrainian universities who did it. Since now the academic activities of SSU can be supplemented with writing articles in Wikipedia.
